Graduation Doctoral/PhD- programme
The Doctoral/PhD-programme is completed with the final examination. The examination committee consists of at least three persons and is usually chaired by the Director of Doctoral Studies.

Final examination Doctoral programme Catholic Theology
The final examination is a comprehensive examination consisting of three examination subjects: 1. public defense, 2. research area of the doctoral thesis and 3. another area of research (= as specified in the doctoral thesis agreement). A numerical grade (1-5) is given for each subject of the exam and all three subjects have to be positive in order to pass the exam. Registration requirements
You may register for the final examination, if all requirements are met:
- positive assessment of the doctoral thesis
- record of exams/achievements, approved by the Director of Doctoral Studies
- If you have been admitted under stipulations: completion of additional exams as stated in the admission letter
Application for approval of the record of exams/achievements
- Fill out the form "record of exams/achievements". If additional exams were prescribed in the letter of admission, proof of their completion must also be provided and entered in the corresponding field on the examination pass.
- Submit the record of exams/achievements at the SSC (scanned by mail)
- Your record of exams will be forwarded to the Director of Doctoral Studies for approval. We will inform you by mail about his/her decision.

- In consultation with your supervisor fill out a proposal for the Examination board and at least three proposals for the date of the examination.
- Submit the registration form at the SSC (scanned by mail)
Examination committee and date of the final examination
The examination committee must be approved by the Director of Doctoral Studies. The date of the final examination may be fixed after the approval (and not before!): The SSC will contact the members of the examination committee asking them about possible dates. As soon as the date is fixed, you will be informed by mail.
Survey on study-related stays abroad
Students at public universities are obliged to complete the UHSTAT2 survey form (according to section 18 subsections 6 and 7 of the Bildungsdokumentationsgesetz 2020, Federal Law Gazette I No. 20/2021, in the current version, and section 141 subsection 3 of the Universitätsgesetz 2002, Federal Law Gazette I No. 120/2002, in the current version) when completing a bachelor's, master's, diploma or doctoral degree program.
After successfully passing the final examination, please fill in the form. As soon as you have completed the survey, you will receive a confirmation. Send this confirmation by e-mail to ssc.ktf@univie.ac.at.
The Degree Certificates can only be handed over once the confirmation has been submitted to the SSC.
